Tuesday, the Lady Spartans were back in action, away at Pendleton Heights Middle School. The Spartans started by controlling possession for the first five minutes, with the ball remaining in the attacking half, but unfortunately, things changed quickly after that. Over the course of the next twenty minutes, the Spartans gave up five quick goals. After a keeper change, the Spartans once again started to control more of the ball, and ended the half with a goal scored directly off a free kick (Abbie Lindsey). The first half ended 5-1. The second half saw your Lady Spartans put up quite a defensive performance, solidified by Blakelynn Branstetter in goal. Neither team scored a goal in the second half, and the game ended 5-1. These girls have had a stretch of challenging games against very skilled opponents. While the scores have not been in our favor, the coaches are proud that they have managed to find a way to buckle down after giving up a lead and then play out scoreless second halves, showing a lot of toughness and determination. Notable performances include: Abbie Lindsey who managed to keep the attacking pressure on by making selfless runs all game, Maddie Welter and Kammy Heiber who controlled the center of the defense and played their hearts out, Letti McGuire who was putting in a tremendous defensive shift before an ankle injury, and Blakelynn Branstetter, who made countless saves and provided a calming presence in goal. The "Larry Shaker Shot Maker Award" was presented to Letti McGuire by her teammates. The Women of the Match awards were given to Blakelynn Branstetter and Maddie Welter by the coaches.
