Last night the Spartans went toe to toe with the #23 team in the state, New Palestine. A match where a couple points could have shifted the outcome, the Spartans saw themselves on the wrong side losing 1-4. Jay McMullen played a great match at #2 singles and earned us our lone point. This was the best version of Jay that we have seen this season. At #2 doubles, Angelo and Eli lost a quick first set 2-6 and saw themselves down in the second set 4-1. Then they gained momentum and won 6-4. This allowed our team to believe that an upset could take place. We got off to a slow start in the third set going down 3-0. We fought back to tie it 4-4 and had a couple of break points. We ended up losing the next two games and the set 4-6. It was a great match and we had our chances. At #1 singles Anthony fought for over an hour winning the first set in a tie break. The second set was tough and he lost 2--6. In the third set tie break, Anthony earned himself two match points, but his opponent came up with some great shots. The points were always long and it was a grind for 3 hours. Anthony lost the third set tie break 10-12 but competed to the very end. The Spartans are now 6-1 on the season and showed that they are capable of being a very good team and playing with top teams in the state. 1 singles Anthony Struewing lost 7-6 (9-7), 2-6, 10-12 2 singles Jay McMullen won 6-2, 6-3 3 singles Abel Parsley lost 3-6, 3-6 1 doubles Evan Miller/ Grady Simpkins lost 0-6, 4-6 2 doubles Angelo Amora/Eli Laughlin lost 2-6, 6-4, 4-6 JV Justin Kitchen lost 0-6 Caigan Gettinger lost 0-6 Justin Kitchen/Hayden McGuire lost 0-6 Caigan Gettinger/Owen Jones lost 1-6
