Monday saw the CMS Lady Spartans travel to Lawrenceburg for the first away game of the season, to battle a tough Greendale Middle School team. The Lady Spartans weren’t able to get into their attacking sets for the majority of the game, with Greendale controlling much of the possession, ultimately leading to an 8-0 Greendale victory. While the loss was disappointing, it was good experience for the team to travel and play an older, more experienced, and technical team. This season's schedule has multiple teams like this lined up, and it’s a great opportunity for this young team to see where they’re at and what they need to improve this year and beyond. Notable performances: Vivi Grubbs (6th), who provided tough physical defensive play on the left-hand side, and Zoey Klein (8th), who made 18 saves on the night! Women of the Match: Laney Holmes (8th), Kambria Harmeyer (7th), and Emma Haffner (6th). Holmes and Harmeyer provided the most reliably calming and consistent play for the young Lady Spartans, with timely defensive interventions and progressive passing. Emma Haffner routinely harassed much bigger and stronger defenders, managing to win multiple duels and force turnovers of possession - a tremendous showing for the young sixth grader. Larry Shaker, Shot Maker Award: The team presented Kambria Harmeyer with this award, congratulations Kam!
