The JV Boys soccer team competed in their 1st match of the season, traveling to Lawrenceburg to face the Tigers. The Spartans did not disappoint, coming home with a 3-0 shutout victory. Strong midfield play, defense, and ball control limited the Tigers' chances on shots throughout the game. Lawrenceburg was only able to challenge the Spartan keepers twice throughout the night. Goalies Ethan Steward and Juanfernando Mendora each combined to secure the Spartan shutout. Lachlan Martin started the Spartans' scoring, finding the back of the net just 5 minutes into the game on an assist by Treyton Johnson. The Spartans would go into halftime with the 1-0 lead. In the 2nd half, the Spartans would tighten up their play and not allow the Tigers any shots throughout the half. Spencer Sailor would increase the lead to 2-0 on an assist by Martin. Later, Treyton Johnson would hit a long floater over the goalie's head to secure the 3-0 victory. He was assisted by Graham Ferguson. "I was happy with the results from tonight. We wanted to get an early start on the scoreboard and felt we played aggressively. We still have a lot of kinks to work out, and it will take time, but this is a talented group of boys, and I look forward to working with them throughout the season." The JV Spartans will play at home on Tuesday evening as they host East Central, with the game starting at 5:30.
