Thursday evening, your CMS Lady Spartans opened their 2026 season with a home game against the Lady Trojans of New Castle. The Lady Spartans absorbed early pressure in the first half but rode it out and managed to take a 1-0 lead on a goal by Charli Corbitt (7th). As the half progressed, the Lady Spartans created several more chances, missing shots just over the bar or just wide of goal. Then, towards the end of the half, Alyssa Richmond (7th) scored our second goal, assisted by Mia Cloyd (7th). This was Richmond’s first goal of her CMS career; congrats, Alyssa! The Lady Spartans took a 2-0 lead into the second half. The second half saw a slightly cleaner performance from the Lady Spartans. Passing, communication, and effort were all ratcheted up a notch. Charli Corbitt scored two more goals in the second half, giving her a hat trick on the day, and surely making her a shoo-in for the “Larry Shaker Shot Maker” award. Lois Riebsomer (7th) added a goal, the first of her CMS career as well - go, Lois! At the final whistle, the score was 5-0 in favor of your Lady Spartans. The 2026 team is the youngest CMS has fielded to date, with only four 8th graders, and while the season will inevitably bring growing pains and learning opportunities, the coaches were proud to see this young team making progress. Women of the Match: Alyssa Richmond and Zoey Klein (8th - GK). Other notable performances include: Laney Holmes (8th) on defense, Vivi Grubbs (6th) on defense, Laney Richards (7th) in midfield, Kambria Harmeyer (7th) in midfield, and Lois Riebsommer (7th) in midfield.
