CMS VS Richmond 8/18/26 Connersville Middle School football kicked off their season with their first home game vs Richmond on Tuesday. The 7th grade Spartan team kicked off the night with a hard fought loss, 34-8. The Spartans kept it close throughout the first half but fell short in the end. The leading tackler for the young Spartans team was #62, Steven DeGroat, who had three tackles on the night. On the offensive side, the Spartans were led in passing by #7, Clark Munchel. Munchel was 4-12 for 111 yards. Adding an 18-yard touchdown through the air to #18, Mason Gay. Munchel also added 42-yards on the ground, on five attempts. Also contributing on the ground was #3, Joseph Gray, who added 34-yards on four rushes. The Spartans will look to bounce back next Thursday at home vs Batesville. Following the 7th grade game, the veteran 8th grade Spartans squad took the field in their game vs Richmond. The Spartans got off to a hot start and didn’t let up. Beating the Red Devils, 20-0. To start their season out, 1-0. Leading tacklers for the 8th grade team were #55, Beau Ritter, with three tackles, and #8, Abel Burge, with two tackles. The Spartan 8th graders added two sacks on the night. One by #12, Bryson Walker, and the other by number #52, James Moses. The Spartan defense also put 6 points on the board with a scoop-and-score fumble recovery by number #12, Bryson Walker. Walker took it 40-yards back the other way for a touchdown. On the offensive side of the ball the Spartans were led in passing by #9, Kohlton Britton. Who was 3-3 for 67-yards and two touchdowns. Both touchdowns were caught by #12, Bryson Walker, which totaled up to 62-yards. Leading rusher on the night was #5, Kai Smiley, who had 21-yards on four attempts. Smiley also ran in a two-point conversion. The Spartans will look to build off this strong start to the season, next Thursday at home vs Batesville.
