April 21, 2026 vs. Union County McMullen was dominant on the bump, as the starter rang up 10 strikeouts in Connersville Varsity Spartans's 16-2 victory over Union County on Tuesday. McMullen allowed four hits and two runs over five innings while walking one. Union County opened the scoring in the first after Cheatham hit a solo home run to left field. Connersville Varsity Spartans jumped into the lead in the bottom of the first when Bentley grounded out, scoring two runs, and Shearer doubled, scoring one run. Connersville Varsity Spartans scored five runs on two hits in the bottom of the second inning. An error scored one run, Bentley doubled, scoring two runs, Brannon hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, and Shearer singled, scoring one run. Connersville Varsity Spartans added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after McMullen singled to center field, and Shearer hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run. Six more Connersville Varsity Spartans runs crossed the plate in the fourth inning to extend the lead to 16-1. Flanigan singled, scoring one run, McMullen tripled, scoring one run, Keller homered to left field, scoring two runs, Brannon hit a solo home run to left field, and Grizzell doubled, scoring one run. #26 took the loss for Union County. The reliever went two-thirds of an inning, surrendering two runs on two hits, striking out one and walking three. Hensley stepped on the hill first for Union County. The starter surrendered three hits and eight runs (four earned) over one and two-thirds innings, striking out one and walking four. Connersville Varsity Spartans collected 12 hits in the game. Shearer led Connersville Varsity Spartans with three hits in three at bats. Flanigan paced Connersville Varsity Spartans with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, accumulating seven walks for the game. Flanigan and McMullen each stole multiple bases for Connersville Varsity Spartans. Connersville Varsity Spartans stole six bases in the game. Connersville Varsity Spartans were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Keller had the most chances in the field with 10. Johnson, Payne, Cheatham, and Williams each collected one hit for Union County. Johnson and Cheatham each drove in one run for Union County.
