Girls Tennis team secures 5-0 conference victory vs South Dearborn

The Lady Spartans tennis team opened conference play with their first road trip of the season at South Dearborn, taking on the Lady Knights. Windy conditions made for a challenging evening, as both teams struggled with swirling gusts throughout the match. The Lady Spartans adjusted well, using strong serves and smart ball placement to secure a 5–0 victory. At No. 1 singles, Sophia Starr defeated Miyah Lane 6–3, 6–2. Bella Starr earned a 6–1, 6–2 win over Tessa Hinkle at No. 2 singles. At No. 3, Amielya Mays battled to a 7–5, 7–2 victory against Brynn Hamlett. In doubles play, Cam Butts and Trinitee Steele won 6–2, 6–1 at No. 1 over Aubrey Lagaly and Samantha Harms. The No. 2 team of Maddie Harrison and Ella Miller completed the sweep with a 6–3, 6–2 win against Elora Cooper and Madison Disney. In junior varsity action, the Lady Spartans showed determination and continued growth. Abby Keal led the way with an 8–1 win at No. 1 singles over Ashleigh Blanton. Cat Graves and Frances Kelly each posted 6–0 victories at No. 2 and No. 3 singles against Claire Andrew and Kyleigh Alvey, respectively. Ella Poe fell 3–6 at No. 4 singles. In doubles, Sophie Neal and Tessa Kelley dropped a close 8–6 decision at No. 1 to Rowen Ramsey and Lily Rollins. Madison Smith and Lorelei Hughes were edged 5–7 in a competitive No. 2 match against Gabriella Hurelbrink and Charlotte Studt. Addy Storms and Eileen Wang fell 1–6 at No. 3, and Rylie Keal and Kami Scott lost 2–6 at No. 4. The Lady Spartans improve to 3–1 overall and 1–0 in EIAC play, while the junior varsity stands at 2–2 (0–1 EIAC). They return to action Wednesday, April 15, hosting Oldenburg at 5:00 p.m., and will wrap up the week Friday, April 17, with a home EIAC matchup against Greensburg at 5:30 p.m. *photo credit Whitewater Valley Voice
