The CMS 8th Grade Spartans showed resilience on Monday at New Castle, battling back from an early deficit before falling 16–12 in a time-limited, three-inning contest. New Castle came out swinging, capitalizing on timely hitting and a few early CMS miscues to build a 10–0 lead in the first inning. Despite the tough start, the Spartans refused to back down. They answered with four runs in the second inning and erupted for eight more in the third, closing the gap and putting pressure on the home team. Offensively, CMS combined timely hitting with excellent plate discipline. Damien Owens sparked the lineup with a leadoff single in the second inning. In the third, Braylon Davis delivered a key two-RBI single, followed by another two-run single from Brody Baker. The Spartans also demonstrated patience at the plate, drawing an impressive 11 walks on the night. On the mound, CMS pitchers showed strong control, issuing just four walks and keeping the team within striking distance after the opening inning. Leading the scoring for the Spartans were Damien Owens, Koleson Gable, Braylon Davis, and Noah Richards with two runs each. Additional runs came from Masyn Welter, Brayden Bell, Brody Baker, and Raylan Runyon. The Connersville 8th grade Spartans will look to carry that momentum into their home opener on Wednesday against Jac-Cen-Del, with first pitch set for 5:30 PM.
