Girls Tennis defeated in season opener to a talented New Castle squad

The Connersville Lady Spartans opened their tennis season against the New Castle Trojans, facing a mix of chilly temperatures, first-match nerves, and the challenge of settling back into competitive play with new matchups. Despite a strong effort, the Spartans fell 2–3 to a talented New Castle squad. At No. 1 singles, senior Sophia Starr battled Peyton Blessinger, falling 2–6, 3–6. Senior Bella Starr competed at No. 2 singles against Ashlynn Blessinger, with a final score of 2–6, 2–6. Junior Amielya Mays secured the Spartans’ first win of the season at No. 3 singles, defeating Kaylee Tipton 6–3, 6–4. In doubles action, the No. 1 senior duo of Cam Butts and Trinitee Steel came up short against Cadence Armacost and Emma Harris, 4–6, 0–6. The No. 2 senior team of Maddie Harrison and Ella Miller delivered a strong performance, defeating Lauren Gilman and Lydia Razor 6–3, 6–3. In junior varsity play, junior Tessa Kelley competed at No. 1 singles, narrowly falling to Adalyn Vail 4–6. At No. 2 singles, sophomore Cat Graves earned a 6–4 victory over Haley New. In doubles, the senior pair of Whitney Corum and Abby Keal secured a decisive 6–1 win. The Lady Spartans (0–1) return to action Wednesday, April 8 at 5 p.m., looking to even their record as they host the Northeastern Knights. To finish out the week, the Lady Spartans will host the Shenandoah Raiders on Friday April 10 at 5pm.
