Boys Golf Off to Promising Start
By Jaime Becker | Apr 6, 2026 1:09 PM
Boys Golf finished 4th out of 17 teams to start the season with a team score of 322 at the Edinburgh invitational, one stroke behind 3rd-place Columbus North. Senior Trey Hughes was low-medalist with an even-par 72. Hughes defeated Kalen Rowland from Greenwood, who also finished with a 72, in a playoff hole with a birdie to take home the individual championship. Hughes becomes the 1st Spartan Golfer to win a multi-team invitational since Cooper Kinney at the Liberty Invitational in 2023. The boys battled the elements with frequent heavy rain after the turn and high winds, causing a lot of havoc throughout the day. Other scores for the Spartans were Logan Young (79), Aiden Gibbs (82), Talon Sherwood (89), and Levi Marszalek (99). I was proud of the boys today, especially given the conditions. It was our lowest team score at Edinburgh by at least 20 strokes, to start our season, in its 6 years of existence. Trey was absolutely on fire today. I'm not sure he ever used his driver. He was crushing his 4-iron in warm-ups, and he stuck with that. Logan and Aiden both played great today, and their ceiling is high going into this season. Talon and Levi honestly played consistently throughout the match, but just let 3 or 4 holes get away from them. Putting is something I feel we need to strengthen as a group, but early on, and with the greens playing the way they did, I cannot be too disappointed. The Spartans are in action on Monday at home VS. Muncie Central with a 5:00 start.
